Mistakes Make Art

This is not going to be the post I had planned, but between having family here all week and the complete demise of my primary computer, I am without my usual programs to put together a good post so, just a quote today. This is something to consider when you are frustrated at making mistakes or not creating that exact thing you had in your mind:

I might add my own little quote … If you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t making art. Think about it. If you made things perfectly every time, there would be no discoveries, no serendipitous new directions, no exciting a-ha moments. Perfection is boring!

So, go create and embrace your mistakes for that’s how you’ll learn and grow. This doesn’t apply to computers apparently (they just learn to make more mistakes!) but I will patiently wait for the replacement and have my full post for you next week!

Somehow, I have always been on the “what if?” edge and get such a thrill out of doing uncontrolled art! There is no way you can get the psychic and emotional energy by painstakingly painting a splash of watercolor; controlling the way polymer clay scraps will color and make more by running them through a pasta machine,(OK, don’t over do it!); adding alcohol inks to Cd disks; and on and on. Creating is about discovery maybe much more than control. I keep telling my students: “Just have FUN!”

hear hear! Both modes have their place but discovery first, by all means. Thank you for adding to the conversation!
